Terry Sole For God, Queen and Colony the Colonial Volunteer and Native Regiments in the Zulu War
Hard cover; no jacket - as issued. Illustrated paper over board.
Pages xvi + 440.
In this book the author has unravelled the stories of the Colonial and Native units that fought alongside the British Army during the infamous Zulu War of 1879 - a period that witnessed one of the worst disasters ever to befall the British Empire, followed immediately by one of the most heroic defences by a small band of men against seemingly overwhelming odds. Today the events of Isandlwana have passed into legend and Rorke's Drift has become synonymous with bravery. Both of these events and numerous others, involved the brave men who volunteered as well as the native conscripts they officered. Many of them died and others were horribly wounded but all received the medal for the campaign. Here the author has left no stone unturned to uncover the original muster rolls, thereby correcting many of the anomalies that exist within previously published works on the subject.
