Carp (Bernard) I CHOSE AFRICA (Publisher's unnumbered de luxe binding)128pp. Half burgundy faux-
128pp. Half burgundy faux-leather over grey faux-leather boards (this is a rather scarce unnumbered de luxe bound copy. Our search finds none other like it). Howard Timmins' logo in gilt to front board, gilt title to sun-faded spine. Light toning to EP's. Slight fatty mark to bottom corner/margin of first 16pp section, not affecting text. Otherwise clean and tight throughout.
"Bernard Carp's absorbing interest in Nature has taken him into many far-away and normally inaccessible places in Africa. On these expeditions his keen insight and powers of accurate observation have been put to excellent purpose and he has now recorded some of his more interesting experiences . As is abundantly clear from this personal account little or nothing of moment has escaped the author's enquiring mind and there is no question but that all lovers of the African out-of-doors will find this book most satisfying. In addition all those others, who, for one reason or another have had little opportunity to roam beyond their own circumscribed environment, this most readable and informative book should prove of equal appeal." - From the Foreword by V. Fitzsimons, Director Transvaal Museum.
Carp, a Dutch Olympic yachtsman settled in Cape Town after years of travelling. He led the Cape Town offices of Erven Lucas Bols whilst also extensively exploring the African continent. This book is the anecdotal story of these travels.
