Marshall N. Goold Spindrift and Sand-driftA rare novel set on ship and in South Africa. The dust
A rare novel set on ship and in South Africa. The dust jacket is by John Hassell and is very well preserved. It describes the book as 'quite reminiscent of Three Men in A Boat'. Three pals arrive in Cape Town and begin adventures which take in a visit to the witch doctor where 'the pipe of peace' turns out to be laden with hashish. They go ox-racing, visit Kimberley Diamond mines, Bloemfontein, Springfontein, Orange River Colony, Johannesburg, Newcastle, Ladysmith and Harrismith where they camp and see bushman paintings. It seems very likely that the author visited the region and many incidents are indeed amusing as the blurb suggests.
Original red cloth bright and clean other than a little water staining to the bottom of the front board and some spine fading where the jacket has a small chip. Not rubbed, all clean inside, no inscriptions. The very rare jacket has a small pink mark corresponding to the water stain. Other than that it is remarkably clean and complete. 248pp. Binding tight.
