A Society of Gentlemen in Scotland Encyclopaedia Britannica, Facsimile of first edition of 1771 (3
This facsimile of the original 3-volume edition was published in 1971 to mark the bicentenary of the first edition of the Encyclopaedia Britannica, which came out in 1771.
Full-bound in brown leathercloth-boards, with silver and silver-on-black lettering, rules and decorations to the spines, all page-edges tinted brown, plain endpapers, 697 + 1009 + 953 = 2659 pp of b/w-illustrated text plus 160 inserted pp of b/w copperplate illustrations printed on art-paper (see examples in images).
CONDITION. This is a handsome, complete and unmarked set, tightly bound and with all the original plates. The (light) original age-foxing is reproduced from the copy or copies used for the facsimile edition.
