Professor S. Howard Hansford JADE - Essence of Hills and Streams. The Von Oertzen Collection of
The legendary jade collection of Baron Claus D. Von Oertzen, descendant of one of the oldest families in North Germany. For most of his life he was involved in the motor industry and traces of his influence can still be seen today. He was the man responsible for bringing Volkswagen to South Africa and, as an outdoors man, he realised what great utility a combination vehicle would have in South African daily life. Thus, he brought the first "Kombi" to South Africa in the early 1950's. Baron Von Oertzen emigrated to South Africa in 1935 as pre-war Germany was making him uneasy. Prior to his emigration he was instrumental in the design of the four-ringed emblem of Auto Union, which was the amalgamation of four of Germany's largest automobile manufacturers, namely DKW, Horch, Wanderer, and Audi. The emblem is still used by Audi today.
This book was a quality production, evidenced by the publisher's thick cloth covered boards with titles in gilt, and a dust jacket made from heavy paper stock.
220pp, profusely illustrated with colour photographs of the Baron's jade collection ranging from the earliest Chinese dynasties to the most recent. A very scarce title.
