2 volumes, 280 + 374 pages, 17 folding coloured maps, 8 plates, original decorated green cloth gilt on the upper cover and spine, fore-edges and bottom edges uncut, the hinges are beginning to wear, starting to fray at the top of the spine in volume 2, a good set.

Mendelssohn (Sidney) South African Bibliography Volume 2 pages 590-1.'The work is characterised by the thoroughness which is so prominent a feature of German productions of this class, and despite constant criticisms of the British methods and military tactics, is written in a perfectly fair and unbiased manner, the translator observing that the volume will be welcomed by the public as well as experts as a history 'which by its conciseness, its strict impartiality, and its lucidity can hardly fail to interest and instruct all who have studied the subject of the war in South Africa'.
