[Gibson (Glenda Anne) Editor] PICTURE CAPE TOWN (Signed by Nelson Mandela and the photographers)

114 pages, cream pictorial covers with the same map of Cape Town folded inwards as a continuation of the front and back covers, 71 full page black and white photographic plates, 10 colour plates of the photographers, a fine copy.

Bookplate of the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund is tipped on on the end paper opposite the title page with Nelson Mandela's signature on it.

The signatures of the 10 photographers are inscribed on the title page.

From the preface: A group of young people come together to represent their city through the medium of photography. Their task in part is to document those features of the lived environment that register for them as landmarks. The process thus is meant to challenge assumptions about value and the logics of urban conservation, as a new generation emerges with its landscape.

The book was published in conjunction with an exhibition organised by the Getty Conservation Institute, in association with the University of Cape Town, which opened at the Caste of Good Hope Gallery in Cape Town in November 1996.
