- Full tan leather binding.
- Limited edition; matched set, all volumes # 45 of 150
- Four raised bands to spine with red leather overlaid between bands 1 & 2 with gilt titling thereon and between bands 3 & 4 with gilt publisher’s information and volume number.
- Front boards decorated with gilt border, titling and author with a vignette appropriate to the book theme.
- Each book is contained in a brown cloth covered slipcase.
- There are two styles of slip case in the set: Volumes 1 – 6 is a case with the book protruding approx 1cm from the spine hinge. Volumes 7 – 36 the book is fully covered by the casing with fingergrip cutouts at mid point of the case.
- Volumes 1 – 4 have a tipped in slip containing the set number; volumes after that had the authentication included in the publication with the set number stamped in place, most books have a loose paper guard protecting the stamping.
- There is a 1cm darkened smudge across the head and tail of the spine band of each book.
- VOLUME 1 contains a large map within a pocket on the inside of the slip case.
- Volume 5 – spine is darkened and the gilt titling is a tad dulled.
- The spine titling is dulled on Volumes 7,8,9,10,12,14, 19, 25, 27 & 28.
- The spine titling is barely discernible and publisher’s info rubbed but readable on Volumes 16 & 17.
- The spine titling is rubbed away on Volumes 29, 31 & 32
- There is a small 2mm nick to the spine and continuing scar to the slipcase on Volumes 20 & 30 (see pics).
- Nibbled patches to slipcases 19, 35 & 36 (see pics).
Also included with the set is the publisher’s catalogue of the Gold Series giving a one page resume of the book showing the dustjacket, frontispiece and pagination etc.
Despite these blemishes this is a rarely offered set and the books are unread and in very good condition.
