Fransen, Hans, and Mary Alexander Cook The Old Buildings of the Cape

The predecessor of this 1980 book was The Old Houses of the Cape (1965), by the same widely published museum director authors.

The value of this encyclopedic and weighty book - 470 quarto pages printed on heavy matt art paper - lies as much in its recording of buildings as they were nearly forty years ago as in the thoroughness and professional care with which it was written, illustrated (in b/w only) and produced.

Two-colour illustrated dustjacket, tan cloth-boards, white to the upper panel and spine, plain endpapers, xiv + 456 pp of illustrated text, bibliography and indexes.

CONDITION. The book itself is Fine throughout - complete  and unmarked except for an ownership inscription on the front free endpaper - but the dustjacket, though also complete, is extensively rubbed and chipped at the front and its spine is sunned.
