Holmes, Richard R. QUEEN VICTORIA Large Quarto, 208 pages of text and illustrations and 18 pages
Large Quarto, 208 pages of text and illustrations and 18 pages of full page photogravures. The frontispiece is in full colour and all of the 65 photogravures are of superb quality, and protected by tissue guards with descriptive texts.
Bound in half vellum with cloth boards, gilt on the spine and front and back boards, and top edges gilt, marbled endpapers. This fine and accurate account of the Life of Queen Victoria was the brainchild of the publishers Boussod, Valadon & Co, who approached the author to write the text for a biography which would be illustrated by pictures from the Royal Collections.
The author was the librarian at Windsor Castle and in close contact with the Queen and accordingly he was uniquely suitable to perform the role of biographer to her majesty. Victoria herself provided assistance where required and the work was published, during her lifetime, in 1897.
Only 350 numbered copies were printed for the UK and bound with a duplicate series of the large plates. This very good copy is No. 125.
