Bound in maroon half morocco with grey cloth boards, bevelled; in slipcase. Thomas Laraine McKenney spent a great deal of his time and money researching the life and culture of the American Indian for the text of his famous portfolio published in the 1830’s.
The annotations to the portraits are largely biographical, argumented by the authors own researches and contacts. The book is a valuable record of Americana. This deluxe edition, signed by the author, is limited to 249 copies of which this very fine copy is number 177.
