Large Quarto (308 x 240 mm). 374 pages of which 112 pages are devoted to the author’s text and 246 pages are devoted to 62 full page full colour plates with the annotations to the plates printed in 2 colours.
Bound in maroon half morocco with grey cloth boards, bevelled; in slipcase. Thomas Laraine McKenney spent a great deal of his time and money researching the life and culture of the American Indian for the text of his famous portfolio published in the 1830’s.
The annotations to the portraits are largely biographical, argumented by the authors own researches and contacts. The book is a valuable record of Americana. This deluxe edition, signed by the author, is limited to 249 copies of which this very fine copy is number 177.
