Marshals of the Soviet Union set over a red banner with USSR symbolica including a red star and hammer and sickle. Photographs from left to right portray - Semyon Budyonny (1883-1973) a Soviet cavalryman, military commander during the Russian Civil War, Polish-Soviet War and World War II, and politician, who was a close political ally of Soviet leader Joseph Stalin. Semyon Timoshenko (1895-1970) was a Soviet military commander, Marshal of the Soviet Union, and one of the most prominent Red Army commanders during the Second World War. Kliment Voroshilov (1881-1969), was a prominent Soviet military officer and politician during the Stalin era and served as Chairman of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet, the nominal Soviet head of state, from 1953 to 1960. Grigory Kulik (1890-1950) was a Soviet military commander and served as chief of the Red Army's Main Artillery Directorate from 1937 until June 1941. Boris Shaposhnikov (1882-1945) was a Soviet military officer and theoretician, he served as the Chief of the General Staff of the Soviet Armed Forces from 1928 to 1931 and at the start of the Second World War. Shaposhnikov was one of the foremost military theorists during the Stalin era.
