Original vintage advertising poster for a procession event, of the procession of history and folklore, held in the city of Ath, a Belgian municipality located in the Walloon province of Hainaut, on the fourth Sunday of August, c.1952. Ath is known as the "City of Giants" after the Ducasse d'Ath festivities which take place every year on the fourth weekend in August. Huge figures representing Goliath, Samson, and other allegoric figures are paraded through the streets, and Goliath's wedding and his famous fight with David are re-enacted. The artwork features a parade of folklore characters, including the giant Goliath and his bride to be. He is dressed in a steel armor and helmet, with a morning star weapon in hand. He is flanked by a swamp monster like character. The streets are lined with onlookers and Belgian flags. The poster is printed in Belgium and designed by graphic artist Paul Jacquet.
