Description
Original vintage travel advertising poster for the Hamburg America Line HAPAG World Travel Cruise from 6 January to 25 May 1931 on board the luxurious three funnel steam ship Resolute. Colourful design featuring a yellow tinted black and white photograph of the Great Buddha of Kamakura Daibutsu at the Kotoku-in Temple in Japan with the text above and below in stylised yellow and orange letters with the HAPAG logo on the side. The Hamburg-Amerika Linie (HAPAG) was founded in 1847; the company merged with North German Lloyd in 1970 to become Hapag-Lloyd AG. The Resolute (1914-1947) was a three funnelled steam ship used as a luxury cruise liner by Hapag from 1928-1935; she was used by the Italian Government for the Abyssinian War, Spanish Civil War and during World War Two when she got hit and sunk; she was demolished in 1947.
