A silver vesta case with sprung hinge enclosing three compartments, engraved HMW from FWR 48th Brigade, France 1916, Birminghham hallmarks for Asprey and stamped Asprey, London Prov: Henry Maitland Wilson, later Field Marshall Lord Wilson of Libya, served WW1 France from 1914, appointed Brigade Major of 48th Brigade in the 16th Irish Division seeing action on both the Somme and at Passchendale. Awarded DSO 1917 and thrice M-I-D, his personal vesta case carried throughout his military career. The Wilson estate.
