The following notes are intended to assist buyers particularly those who are new to our salerooms. Our conditions of sale are reproduced below. Please remember our staff are always on hand to assist.
BUYERS REGISTRATION
All attending buyers are asked to register at the reception desk, proof of identity and residence will be required. This should be conducted prior to the sale. You will be issued with a bidding paddle. Buyers intending to bid via the internet should register with the www.the-saleroom.com at least 5 days prior to sale.
BIDDING
Please bid clearly and promptly. Should you be the successful buyer of any lot please ensure that your paddle can be seen by the auctioneer. Ensure the auctioneer repeats the number correctly when confirming the sale. Please return bidding paddles to the reception desk at the end of the sale.
ABSENTEE OR COMMISSION BIDDING
Commission bids may be left with the auctioneers indicating the maximum amount to be bid, (excluding buyers premium). Bids will be executed as cheaply as possible having regard to the Reserve (if any) and competing bids. We will do our utmost to execute these bids but we offer this service at the bidder’s risk. All absentee bids and email bids must be received by no later than 4.00 pm on Friday 29th November.
TELEPHONE BIDDING
If you are unable to come to the auction it may be possible to bid on the telephone for higher value lots. The number of lines is limited therefore, please note that this service is for lots with an estimate of £1000 or more. It would be advisable to leave a maximum covering bid in case we are not able to contact you by telephone. All lines must be booked before the day of the auction and preferably some time in advance.
Telephone bidding involves many variables and whilst we take every care to ensure the smooth running of this service we cannot be held liable if your bids are missed for any reason.
VIEWING
All lots are available for inspection prior to the sale on Tuesday 26th November 6.00pm-8.00pm, Wednesday 27th November 9.00am-5.00pm, Thursday 28th November 9.00am-5.00pm, Friday 29th November 9.00am-4.30pm and on the morning of the sale from 8.00am.
CONDITION
Prospective purchasers have ample opportunity for inspection of goods and therefore must accept responsibility for inspecting lots which they may be interested in. If you require an opinion on the condition of any lot, please ask staff. Neither the seller nor ourselves, as the auctioneers accept any responsibility for their condition.
CONDITION REPORTS
We may be able to assist buyers unable to view by posting or emailing a condition report, but these reports are based solely on our opinion and are for guidance only and no responsibility is accepted for their accuracy. Buyers are strongly encouraged to view. Condition reports can be obtained by emailing enquiries@trcallan.com.
ESTIMATES
Estimates are designed to help purchasers gauge the amount involved for the purchase of a particular lot. These are printed below each lot and do not include buyer’s premium.
BUYERS PREMIUM
Buyer’s premium will be charged at 20% of the hammer price of each lot. Vat of 20% will be charged on the buyer’s premium.
PAYMENT
Buyers attending the sale are advised that all lots must be paid for in full on the day of the sale. Commission bidders should check the success of their bids as soon as possible and forward payment within five working days. Goods will not be released until all payments have been cleared.
For purchasers not present we no longer accept any card payments - credit or debit cards. All payments must be made by Bank Transfer or Bankers Draft. Our bank details will be attached to all invoices.
ARTISTS RESALE RIGHT
Lots indicated with ARR symbol, are each subject to Artists Resale Rights (ARR) in the cases where the lot sells for a hammer price of 1000 euro (£765) or more but calculated on the exchange rate of the European Central bank on the auction day. The royalty of 4% of the hammer price is charged to the buyer in addition to the buyer’s premium. The royalty is not subject to VAT.
Thomas R Callan will forward all royalty charges to the Design and Artists Copyright Society. NB. The ARR has now been extended to benefit the Heirs of any artist who died in the last 70 years. Thomas R Callan does not retain any handling costs in respect of the ARR.
