"Landscape with a house".
Oil on canvas.
Signed in the upper margin.
Size: 54 x 73 cm; 75 x 94 cm (frame).
Trained with Vicente Castell, in 1906 he travels to Valencia thanks to a scholarship, and enters the School of Fine Arts of San Carlos. Four years later he settled in Barcelona, where he studied at the Escuela de La Lonja and joined the circles of renovating artists, coming into direct contact with the modernist movement. After completing his studies, in 1915 he returned to Castellón, where he founded the Agrupación Ribalta, better known as the Grup dels Nou, which focused on landscape painting and whose members introduced a more impressionist style of landscape painting. A regular at the Círculo Artístico de Sant Lluc in Barcelona, he made his individual debut at the La Pinacoteca gallery in 1918, where he continued to exhibit frequently thereafter. He took part in the 1929 Barcelona International Exhibition, as well as in international competitions in Venice, Oslo, Buenos Aires and Paris. From his residence in Barcelona, Porcar brought with him the impressions of Mir and Vayreda's landscape painting. In 1954 he won the first medal at the National Exhibition of Fine Arts, an award that brought him definitive recognition. Porcar is represented in the Museums of Fine Arts in Valencia, Alicante and Castellón, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Villafamés, the Lladró Museum and the National Theatre Museum in Almagro, among others.Porcar had his own style based on instinct, colour and painting were part of his existence, so much so that he created a style in keeping with his time due to the violence and strength that characterises his paintings. They were free creations, with open skies and infinite horizons of immediate and spontaneous brushstrokes. In them one can see the predominance of feeling over the cerebral and predetermined, being the creator of a characteristic landscape, the "porcareño", which did not imitate anyone and was of an entirely personal conception. His work is represented in the Museum of Fine Arts in Barcelona, the Popular Museum of Contemporary Art in Villafamés, the Museum of Archaeology in Paris, the Museum of Fine Arts in Valencia, the Valencian Institute of Modern Art in Valencia, the Municipal Museum of Barcelona, the Museum of Modern Art in Barcelona, the Museum of Modern Art in Madrid and the Museum of Modern Art in Bilbao, among others.
