Measurements: 60 x 39 cm.
Processional cross in gilded copper with flordelised finials on three of the arms, decorated on the front and back with an engraved composition based on simple plant and geometric elements. In the central area, the figure in relief of Christ crucified with three nails, wearing a short purity cloth, flanked by Saint John the Evangelist (on the left) and the Virgin (on the right), i.e. by Calvary, stands out. The composition is completed by two praying figures at the top and bottom, also worked in relief.
This type of piece was used for important liturgical events, such as processions, and was often changed when there were economic means to do so and in line with new fashions. This type of cross finial, known as "flordelisada" due to the finish of the arms, was one of the most common in Spanish silverware of the period and enjoyed a long tradition. Precious metals and materials such as gold, silver, gilded silver, enamel, precious stones, etc. were preferred, but if the parish or ecclesiastical authority could not afford to pay for them, they were made in other more humble but richer-looking materials, such as gilded copper. In this second case, too, the fashions and techniques of silverware were followed, and striking similarities can be found in works made of different materials.
