Edward Mercer was born in Brighton, Sussex. He served during the Great War with the 1st Battalion, Loyal North Lancashire Regiment on the Western Front from 12 August 1914. Sergeant Mercer died of wounds on the Western Front, 19 September 1914. In the lead up to that date, the Battalion was engaged on the Aisne:
‘Crossed the Aisne at Bourg (13th) then to billets at Moulins. Advanced to Vendresse (14th) then took part in attack on Troyon. Casualties - Major Lloyd, Captains Body, Watson, Helme, Howard-Vyse, Lieutenants Goldie, Loomes, Mason and Robinson killed or mortally wounded, 5 officers wounded, over 500 other ranks killed, wounded or missing. Colonel H. C. Wylly in his history of the Loyal North Lancashire Regiment notes that many casualties were from ‘B’ Company, 3 out of 5 officers and 175 out of 200 other ranks being lost. He also records that the positions held were - “tolerably quite” (15th), the Battalion’s trenches being just below the crest of the hill. Enemy attack repulsed (16th). Relieved by 1st East Yorkshire (19th).’ (British Battalions in France and Belgium 1914 by R. Westlake refers)
Sergeant Mercer is buried in the Priez Communal Cemetery, France.

If you live within the UK, items will be despatched using Royal Mail Special Delivery. This service provides parcel tracking (via the Royal Mail website) and next weekday delivery (betwen 9am and 1pm). Items delivered within the UK are covered by our insurance company. Heavy and bulky lots will be sent by courier, in discussion with the client.
Outside of the UK
If the item/s being sent are worth under £1000 in total they are sent using Royal Mail’s Signed For International service. This ensures the item must be signed for when it is delivered.
If the item/s being sent are valued at over £1000 in total they will be sent using FedEx. This service allows next day delivery to customers in many parts of the US and parcels are fully trackable using the FedEx website.
Shipping Exceptions
Certain lots such as those containing glass or sharp implements, etc., may not be suitable for in-house shipping within or outside of the UK. Please contact Noonans with any queries.
