James Lundie was born in St. Vigeans, Forfarshire, Scotland. He was the son of Mr and Mrs J. Lundie of 4 Reform Street, Arbroath, and was employed at the Westburn Foundry prior to the Great War. Lundie had three brothers serving during the Great War in the Royal Navy, and one with the Gordon Highlanders. He served during the Great War with the 1/5th Battalion, Royal Highlanders on the Western Front from 1 November 1914.
Early in 1916 the 4th and 5th Battalions were amalgamated to form the 4/5th Battalion. Private Lundie was serving with ‘E’ Company, 4/5th Battalion when he was killed in action on the Western Front, 3 September 1916. On the latter date the Battalion were engaged on the Somme:
‘Took over line between River Ancre and Beaucourt Road and attacked enemy positions opposite Hamel (3/9) - ‘A’ and ‘C’ Companies advanced from Giant’s Causeway at dawn - objective reached but later driven back by heavy machine gun fire. Renewed attack with 11th Royal Sussex - German support line reached and held until 4pm. Withdrew to Englebelmer. Casualties - 218.’ (British Battalions on the Somme by R. Westlake refers)
Private Lundie is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.

Within the UK
If you live within the UK, items will be despatched using Royal Mail Special Delivery. This service provides parcel tracking (via the Royal Mail website) and next weekday delivery (betwen 9am and 1pm). Items delivered within the UK are covered by our insurance company. Heavy and bulky lots will be sent by courier, in discussion with the client.
Outside of the UK
If the item/s being sent are worth under £1000 in total they are sent using Royal Mail’s Signed For International service. This ensures the item must be signed for when it is delivered.
If the item/s being sent are valued at over £1000 in total they will be sent using FedEx. This service allows next day delivery to customers in many parts of the US and parcels are fully trackable using the FedEx website.
Shipping Exceptions
Certain lots such as those containing glass or sharp implements, etc., may not be suitable for in-house shipping within or outside of the UK. Please contact Noonans with any queries.
