Henfrey, H.W., Numismata Cromwelliana, London, 1877, ix + 230pp, 8 plates (Manville 483); 4pp ALS from Henfrey at 14 Park Street, St James’s Park, London SW, to the Marquis of Bath, 17 February 1874, tipped-in. Original decorated and embossed cloth, gilt; a very fine copy £80-£100 --- Provenance: Ex libris Phirooz Randeira, Sotheby Auction, 1 May 1984, lot 471; Burgess Williamson Library [from D.R.D. Edmunds]. The opening lines of the letter read: ‘My Lord Marquis, I venture to hope that your Lordship will pardon me in troubling you on this occasion, when you hear that it is solely in the cause of historical and antiquarian science. In the account of your Lordship’s valuable collection of ancient documents, as described in the Third Report of the Historical Manuscripts Commission, I notice that six letters etc, of Oliver Cromwell are mentioned; and as I am now endeavouring to write as complete account as possible of all the Cromwellian Seals, for publication in the work mentioned on the enclosed psospectus; I beg respectfully to ask if your Lordship would kindly request your Librarian at Longleat to favour me with answers to the queries on the other side [of the letter]. Such information would be of very great value to me, and would be most gratefully acknowledged in my book. I have the honour to be...your most obedient servant, Henry W. Henfrey’. The letter was answered by J.E. Jackson on 21 February 1874
