Elliott, Royal Marine Light Infantry, who was captured and taken Prisoner of War at the Defence of Antwerp on 13 October 1914, whilst still under-age; repatriated at the end of the War, he remained in the service, and was killed in action during the Second World War when his Defensively Equipped Merchant Ship S.S. Bassa was torpedoed and sunk south-west of Roockall by the German U-32 with the loss of all hands on 29 September 1940 1914 Star, with clasp (Po.17379. Pte. A. E. Elliott, R.M. Brigade.); British War and Victory Medals (Po.17379 Pte. A. E. Elliott. R.M.L.I.); Royal Navy L.S. & G.C., G.V.R., 2nd issue, fixed suspension (Ply.21906 A. E. Elliott. Mne. R.M.) contact marks, generally nearly very fine (4) £240-£280 --- Albert Edward Elliott was born in Gateshead, Co. Durham, on 15 July 1897 and attested for the Royal Marine Light Infantry on 10 August 1914. He served with the Royal Marine Brigade during the Great War on the Western Front from 19 September 1914, and was captured and taken Prisoner of War during the Defence of Antwerp on 13 October 1914 whilst still under-age. He was repatriated on 24 December 1918, and remained in the Service for the entirety of the inter-War years, being awarded his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal on 2 November 1930. Following the outbreak of the Second World War Elliott was born on the books of H.M.S. President III, and served in the Defensively Equipped Merchant Ship S.S. Bassa. He was killed with the Bassa, en route from Liverpool to New York as part of Convoy OB-219, was torpedoed and sunk with the loss of all hands by the German submarine U-32 south-west of Rockall at 00:53 on 29 September 1940. He is commemorated on the Plymouth Naval Memorial. Sold with copied research.

If you live within the UK, items will be despatched using Royal Mail Special Delivery. This service provides parcel tracking (via the Royal Mail website) and next weekday delivery (betwen 9am and 1pm). Items delivered within the UK are covered by our insurance company. Heavy and bulky lots will be sent by courier, in discussion with the client.

Outside of the UK
If the item/s being sent are worth under £1000 in total they are sent using Royal Mail’s Signed For International service. This ensures the item must be signed for when it is delivered.
If the item/s being sent are valued at over £1000 in total they will be sent using FedEx. This service allows next day delivery to customers in many parts of the US and parcels are fully trackable using the FedEx website.
