A 1920s brass, ship's bulkhead clock, by Dobbie McInnes Ltd., Glasgow, for TSS Scotia, the silvered dial, with Roman numerals and subsidiary seconds dial signed "Dobbie McInnes Ltd. - Glasgow" and "L.N.W.R.", stamped "Scotia" to the flange, "Third Class Saloon" scratched faintly to back-plate, 10¾" (27.5cm) diameter, 4" (10cm) deep, weight 4.7Kg.
TSS Scotia was a twin screw steamer passenger vessel operated on the Holyhead - Kingstown / Dun Laoghaire route by the London and North Western Railway from 1921 to 1923, and the London, Midland and Scottish Railway from 1923 to 1940. She was built by William Denny and Brothers of Dumbarton and launched in 1920.
On 1 June 1940 she was bombed by German aircraft during the Dunkirk evacuation. The destroyer HMS Esk came alongside and rescued nearly 1,000 troops. The destroyer HMS Worcester was nearby and also picked up some survivors. Twenty eight of her crew and an estimated 200 to 300 French troops were killed.
