19TH CENTURY ENGLISH SCHOOL AFTER ROBERT WALKER “Oliver Cromwell” a portrait study in armour, oil on canvas, unsigned, inscribed verso "Sir John Hippisleigh, Marston House Whome God Preserve", 75 cm x 62 cm
CONDITION REPORTS
Appears to be basically sound though with some craquelure throughout, particularly around the hair line and head. Some loss along the crease line of the stretcher. Under UV light it is difficult to tell whether over-painting has taken place in most areas as the painting appears very dark throughout. There is clear evidence on certain lines of the armour. The remainder appears to be relatively untouched. See images for further detail. The frame is basically sound though has loss to the surface gilding in many areas - again see images for further detail.
