Small book edition, with which Kippenberger satirizes a work by AR Penck
Estimate by Auctionata Expert: 4,000 Euro
With this artist's book Martin Kippenberger satirizes the artist's book ‘Die Welt des Adlers’ by his colleague AR Penck. It is quite comparable in design, paper and finish, but only a ‘half-portion’ regarding the number of drawings, format and print run and undermines in Kippenberger’s typical manner the pathos of the template.
Condition:
The book including the loose pencil drawing in very good condition with only the tiniest signs of age and use to the dustjacket and slipcase. The dimensions of the drawing are 14 x 10.5 cm, the book measures 14.7 x 11.5 cm.
Martin Kippenberger (1953-1997)
Martin Kippenberger’s work is characterized by his provocative personality and his extreme positions in diverse styles and media. Kippenberger was named the enfant terrible of his generation. He graduated from The University of Fine Arts of Hamburg, where he was inspired amongst others by Sigmar Polke. Kippenberger’s refusal to adapt to a specific style resulted in an extremely prolific and diverse work, which includes sculptures, paintings, works on paper, photographs, installations and prints. Kippenberger’s art work was honored already during his lifetime by exhibitions in international museums. Today, many of his works are on display in important museum collections, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Tate Gallery in London. (fea)
