Beschreibung
CAPOTE TRUMAN: (1924-1984) American Writer. A.L.S., Truman, 4to, two pages, Taormina, Italy, 28th May 1952, to Leonard [Lyons]. Capote informs his correspondent, in part, 'Your two notes have just now reached me - having been forwarded from Paris to Portofino to Rome to Ischia to me! So perhaps you no longer have need of a 'great column'. In any event, I'm terribly flattered that you should ask me, and if you still want one I shall try to oblige' continuing, 'Of course I have no idea where you are; are you in Europe? I don't suppose you will get to Sicily (noone ever does) but perhaps I will see you in Venice in Sept' further continuing, 'I could not get back my old house here in Taormina on account of its having been let. So I've rented in its entirety a 25 room hotel high up on a mountain overlooking the sea. It is a brand new hotel that the owner does not plan to open until next spring, so he rented it to me for what one would pay for an ordinary house...' With light age toning, otherwise VG £100-150 Leonard Lyons (1906-1976) American Newspaper Columnist.
