Signed autograph statement, Cte de Lesseps, one page, folio, beneath an original pen and ink drawing by the German-Swiss artist Robert Kastor, the well-executed work depicting an attractive portrait of De Lesseps who adds few proverbs, christian and oriental ones, stating in part `An ounce of fear is heavier than a quintal of friendship´ and the Suez Canal motto `Aperire terram gentibus ! (`Open the land to the Nations´), dated 1890 in his hand. Small traces of former framing to the upper border. VG £100-150
