19th CENTURY ENGLISH SCHOOL, Flying Fox. A horse portrait. Oil on canvas. Inscribed to the reverse, "Flying Fox by Orme-Vampire, bred by the Duke of Westminster, foaled in 1896". 7 x 10ins. NOTE. Flying Fox was the last great horse raced by the first Duke of Westminster, his second Triple Crown winner, his first being, Flying Fox's grandsire, Ormonde. After the Duke's death Flying Fox was sold at auction for 37,500 guineas, at the time the highest price ever paid for a horse at auction. (See illustration)
