Anno 1590.- [3], 402 f.; 19 cm.- E., A 16th century edition, in the vernacular, of the Tridentine Catechism, whose translator was Friar Cristóvão de Matos, as can be seen from the approval of the inquisitorial censor D. Friar Bartolomeu Ferreira, inserted on the front of the third sheet. The text, completed in 1566, following the determination of the Council of Trent, was intended for the instruction of parish priests and priests in general and not directly for the pastoral care of the faithful. The title page, with a xilograph engraving representing the coat of arms of D. Miguel de Castro, Archbishop of Lisbon, and the following two pages, were composed in black and red. Ownership crossed out on the title page: frey Martim Vasquez; at the end, provisioner's initials: Xpofors. [Christophorus]. Copy a little cropped, but clean.
