The Beguinage, for many years a nunnery, is a well known landmark in Bruges. This evocative image of the Beguinage with its symbolist overtones combines in the print a pattern of delicate lines and misty light. The building would have been well known to Brangwyn who was born in the city.
Though Brangwyn collaborated with various print makers such as H.G.Webb and C.W. Moore, his best known collaboration was with the Japanese woodblock specialist Yoshijro Urushibara with whom he worked from c.1910 for the next 30 years
