This was an illustration for The Graphic Magazine (20 July 1918). The Graphic wrote that the tank was ‘A War Curiosity for French Villagers….’. ‘While the tank has become a common feature in the modern battlefield it is still an object of curiosity not unmixed with awe to civilians behind the lines....The appearance of a captured German tank in a French village attracts the population from miles around…..Women, children and old men flock in to see the new terrible engine of war’.
