London
Vintage propaganda poster created during protests in Paris, France in 1968, known as Mai 68 or May 68. The poster features a portrait of Daniel Cohn-Bendit and text "Nous sommes tous indesirables" - "We are all unwanted/undersirables", with an artwork featuring a linocut style monotone image and text of the portrait of a man grinning. Thus poster is a vintage commercial reproduction of the original poster printed by Mur Graphique in Montclaire, New Jersey, USA for sale to the public. Beginning in May 1968, a period of civil unrest occurred throughout France, lasting some seven weeks and punctuated by demonstrations, general strikes, as well as the occupation of universities and factories. At the height of events, which have since become known as May 68, the economy of France came to a halt. The protests reached such a point that political leaders feared civil war or revolution; the national government briefly ceased to function after President Charles de Gaulle secretly fled France to Germany at one point. The protests spurred movements worldwide, with songs, imaginative graffiti, posters, and slogans. Good condition, tears, creasing, staining, pinholes. Country of issue: USA, designer: Bernard Rancillac, size (cm): 74x59, year of printing: 1960s
