Original vintage German movie poster for the re-release of 1955 American comedy film The Seven Year Itch (Das Verflixte 7. Jahr) directed by Billy Wilder and starring Marylin Monroe and Tom Ewell. This poster was published in Germany for the re-release of the film in Cinemascope in 1974. It features a great artwork showing Marylin Monoroe in a little black night dress and black stockings set against a silver background, with the text printed on the right side in red and blue bold letters. The Seven Year Itch is a 1955 American romantic comedy film based on a three-act play with the same name by George Axelrod. The film was co-written and directed by Billy Wilder, and stars Marilyn Monroe and Tom Ewell, reprising his Broadway role from the play. It contains one of the most notable images of the 20th century – Monroe standing on a subway grate as her white dress is blown upwards by a passing train. The titular phrase, which refers to declining interest in a monogamous relationship after seven years of marriage, has been used by psychologists. Billy Wilder, born Samuel Wilder (1906 – March 27, 2002), was an Austrian-born American filmmaker, screenwriter, producer, artist, and journalist whose career spanned more than five decades. He is regarded as one of the most brilliant and versatile filmmakers of the Hollywood Golden Age of cinema. With The Apartment, Wilder became the first person to win Academy Awards as producer, director, and screenwriter for the same film. Marilyn Monroe (born Norma Jeane Mortenson; (1926 – 1962) was an American actress, model, and singer. Famous for playing comedic "blonde bombshell" characters, she became one of the most popular sex symbols of the 1950s and early 1960s and was emblematic of the era's changing attitudes towards sexuality. Although she was a top-billed actress for only a decade, her films grossed $200 million (equivalent to $2 billion in 2018) by the time of her unexpected death in 1962. More than half a century later, she continues to be a major popular culture icon. Tom Ewell (born Samuel Yewell Tompkins, (1909 - 1994) was an American film, stage and television actor, and producer. His most successful and arguably most identifiable role was that of Richard Sherman in The Seven Year Itch, a role that he originated in the Broadway stage production (1952–1954) and reprised in the 1955 Hollywood film adaptation. He received a Tony Award for the play and a Golden Globe Award for the film. He appeared in several other light comedies of the 1950s, most notably The Girl Can't Help It (1956), though he preferred the stage. Very good condition, folded as issued. Country: Germany, year of printing: 1974, designer: Unknown, size (cm): 83.5x59.5
