Find jewellery to ‘ADORE’ at auction

Victorians would plant messages in their jewellery, organising the stones in a ring to spell words. For example, taking the first letter of amethyst, diamond, opal, ruby and emerald spells ‘adore’, so the precious stones would be set in that order.

There are plenty of diamonds to be found in the sale – most items at least have smaller diamonds around the feature stones. This set of diamond snake in an s-shape around a ring which has a 9ct gold band and is size N. Bids start at £40. View the catalogue entry here.

Newcastle auction house’s timed online jewellery sale features a range of items with different stones, so why not set yourself on one of each? Or at least on of your favourites. All lots start at easily affordable prices and the sale ends May 23.
