A good Napoleon III, Directoire style, mahogany and brass mounted double bed, profusely embellished with brass paterae, 'razor blade' and rectangular panels, the arched bedhead and conforming foot-board, flanked on each side by a fluted Tuscan column with a pineapple finial, raised on toupie feet, 147cm wide x 216cm long x 140cm highOk. Minor dents, scratches etc. consistent with age and use. Vendors had a new bed-base made at the time they bought this bed.

Some white paint residue to the side of both wardrobes. the bed head is approximately 199 cm in length. Add this to the width of the bedside sections the entire length is approximately 293cm. A pair of cream linen type curtains richly patterned with a mulberry and terracotta design edged with a velvet and cord fringe. The design motifs are outlined with thin piping in fine cord and velvet, goblet heading, thermal and blackout lining. There is an aperture at the top of the curtains of approx. 28cm x 45cm (perhaps to accommodate a beam if the curtains were used as wall hangings or part of a bedhead) (each curtain approx. 195cm hem x 350cm drop). His expertise was unrivalled when it came to the Cornish artist John Opie and he was always so generous with his advice, always cautious, always sensible, always kind and supportive. He had schorlarly, yet eclectic tastes and could be a most spirited bidder on objects that appealed to him. We are honoured to be selling some of the wonderful things he collected over the years. He was wonderful, kind and entertaining company and is very much missed.No woodworm or damages. Obvious modern bottom rail. Height 160cm, width 131cm.The main photo shows a missing piece which has now been found. (See photo). A block to the right of this piece is slightly wobbly but not in danger of coming off. There is a 17cm crack across the arch of the left hand panel. Under the top frieze there are several mini corbels missing (nine in total). As a whole, the bedhead is sturdy and rigid.
