Cartier, London. An 18ct gold manual wind rectangular wristwatch with gold deployant clasp stamped JC  Tank Normale, JLC movement number 1800693, Case back numbered 10385 and 7866, inside case numbered 10385, London hallmark for 1966 Jaeger-LeCoultre manual wind movement, white enamel dial with elongated Roman hourly numerals, blued steel hands, gold rectangular case with the back held by 4 gold screws and engraved DHC for Dodie Heath Cushingham, with London hallmarks for 1966, on a leather strap secured to the case by four gold screws, with gold Cartier deployant clasp numbered 1212 and marked JC and with London hallmark for 1966, sold together with a valuation for insurance from Cartier dated June 2017 confirming the provenance and date of manufacture 18.4mm x 25mm Property from the estate of the late Dodie Heath Rowena Dolores Heath (1934-2019), better known as Dodie Heath was a well known American star of stage and screen, featuring in films such as The Diary of Ann Frank and Brigadoon. She was happily married to film producer Jack Cushingham from 1962 until his death in 1985. This beautiful London made Cartier watch dates from 1966 and is engraved with her married initials DHC. Perhaps it was given to her as a gift by her new husband, but its manufacture also coincides with the release dates of several productions she featured in, including ‘The Fortune Cookie,’ ’Seconds’ and the crime drama  ‘Dog Eat Dog.’ Finding 1960’s Cartier Tank watches of any kind is rare these days, but finding a London made 1966 example with the original Cartier London deployant clasp with the same gold date is even rarer as these watches were made in significantly smaller numbers. This was probably because it was at this point that the New York, Paris and London branches all split up and ran as independent businesses. This was also the moment that Cartier London, lead by Jean-Jacques Cartier, had decided to produce its own wristwatches. It wasn’t until the following year the the Cartier Crash was launched and so at this point production must have been just getting off its feet - consequently very few examples from this time exist.  Please note that Roseberys do not guarantee working order or time keeping of any automatic, mechanical, quartz or other timepieceCondition Report: The case is in good order with some evidence of a gentle polish. The screws to the case are in good order, though the screws to the strap have been scratched at some stage. There are engraved initials to the case back. The Cartier numbers have possibly been restamped (the watch was serviced by Cartier) and the dial has also been carefully been restored and is in good order with no cracks or marks. The gold stamps and London hallmarks are legible on the case and deployant clasp. The watch currently runs when wound but is untested for timekeeping Please note that the watch straps for this lot will be removed at the time of purchase.

These companies were Buren, Cyma, Eterna, Grana, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Lemania, Longines, IWC, Omega, Record, Timor, and Vertex. The term 'Dirty Dozen', after the 1967 film, has been coined to describe these watches. It is estimated that approximately 150,000 watches were produced with around 8,000 examples delivered by Longines. Each was stamped with the military broad arrow mark and the initials WWW standing for 'Watch, Wrist, Waterproof'. The Longines model has latterly become known as the ‘Greenlander’, although the watch was never issued for the British North Greenland Expedition and the name derives from an erroneous attribution in a military watch book, as the author believed that the model was worn by soldiers on this expedition.Condition:Case and back: Micro-abrasions, small scratches and tiny dints, consistent with age and use.Crystal: Some small scratches.Dial: Fair to good with some tiny losses to print. Lume possibly re-touched.Hands: Replacements - fair condition with tip of minute hand slightly bent.Strap: Minor signs of wear.Movement: Winds, sets and runs.Unless otherwise stated, all watches are likely to have been serviced and/or repaired in their lifetime and may have had parts replaced. While a watch may be described as 'working' at the time of the report, they are not guaranteed for timekeeping - it is advised that all watches are inspected and serviced by a qualified jeweller or horologist before full use.
