Top of the charts: five marvellous LPs on offer at specialist records auction

Imagine a line up comprising The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, Queen, AC/DC and David Bowie. While this is the stuff of fantasy when it comes to a concert, it is a reality when it comes to auction.

The 360-lot auction of Soul, Jazz and Blues plus Rare Vinyl Highlights at Omega Auctions on May 9 includes multiple records by all of the above artists. There’s also plenty more besides from Pink Floyd to Miles Davis, and with estimates ranging from £50 to £4500 there’s also something for every budget.

Here’s our pick of five lots that caught our eye to give you a flavour of what’s on offer. Rock on!

1. The Rolling Stones’ Get Off My Cloud

A demo copy of Get Off My Cloud by The Rolling Stones, estimated at £200-250 at Omega Auctions.

A demo copy of Get Off My Cloud, one of The Rolling Stones’ 1965 hits that topped the charts is on offer at the Omega Auctions sale.

Released by Decca, it features The Singer Not the Song on the b-side.

The record is in ‘Ex+’ condition with clean, shiny playing surfaces with a few tiny hairlines. It is estimated at £200-250.

2. The Beatles’ Please Please Me

The Beatles’ Please Please Me

The Beatles’ Please Please Me LP (1st UK 'black and gold' mono pressing with 1st stereo sleeve), estimated at £500-800 at Omega Auctions.

The Omega catalogue for this first UK mono black and gold pressing of Please Please Me mentions that it represents a ‘great opportunity for the discerning Beatles collector’.

Housed in the original stereo sleeve, the record is in solid condition showing only some light surface marks. It is estimated at £500-800.

3. Queen’s We Will Rock You

A Queen 1977 single-sided three track sampler record, estimated at £500-1000 at Omega Auctions.

Described as ‘an outrageous Queen rarity’, this original UK 1977 white label sampler record of We Will Rock You, We Are The Champions and Spread Your Wings is estimated at £500-1000.

The single-sided three track 12" LP has a white label with handwritten track listings and is in excellent condition. Interestingly this mix of Spread Your Wings was never commercially released in the UK and this releases features in the Record Collector’s 'Top Rarities' list for Queen.

4. AC/DC's Let There Be Rock

AC/DC's single Let There Be Rock

Rhodesian pressed 7" copy of AC/DC's single Let There Be Rock, estimated at £1000-1500 at Omega Auctions.

A scarce 7" copy of AC/DC's mid-70s single Let There Be Rock (with Problem Child to the b-side) is estimated at £1000-1500 at Omega Auctions.

The 1977 Rhodesian pressing on Atlantic has white and black labels with a name and date written on the A-side. It is described as in ‘lovely, glossy VG+ condition’.

5. David Bowie’s Space Oddity

David Bowie’s Space Oddity

David Bowie’s Space Oddity, a 2019 gold vinyl pressing estimated at £3500-4500 at Omega Auctions.

A gold vinyl pressing of David Bowie’s Space Oddity, one of 50 copies from 2019 is among the top lots on offer at the Omega Auctions sale.

The exclusive '50th Anniversary Tony Visconti Mix' of the iconic 1969 LP is something of a rarity and it is offered in 'as new' condition showing few discernible marks. It comes with the gatefold, outer slipcase and original hype sticker on the outer sleeve. The estimate is £3500-4500.
