Five affordable Modern British artworks at auction including Henry Moore lithograph

If you want to buy a ‘more affordable’ piece of Modern British art such as works by by Henry Moore or Mary Fedden, regional auction houses offer fine possibilities in various forms.

Henry Moore Ideas for Metal Sculpture V lithograph - estimate £300-500 at Sworders' timed auction ending on June 14.

Take the Modern British Art Part 2 timed auction at Sworders of Essex ending on June 14. Limited edition prints by famous names provide a great entry point into this market.

However, while original works by the top names can give your bank balance a bit of a battering, this Sworders sale shows such purchases at lower price points are also possible, for artists such as Samuel Lamorna Birch for example.

Think pink, think William Ware

William E Ware's The Pink House - estimate £200-400 in Sworders' timed sale ending on June 14.

The Pink House is is an original piece of work by William E Ware (1915-99). Signed and dated '49, inscribed on stretcher verso, the 50 x 39cm oil on canvas is estimated at £200-400.

Original trees by Birch

Samuel Lamorna Birch Stone Cottage and Bare Trees - estimate £200-300 at Sworders' timed auction ending on June 14.

Another 'affordable' option for an original Mod Brit work comes in the form of this Samuel John Lamorna Birch (1869-1955) work titled Stone Cottage and Bare Trees. Signed lower right, the 24 x 34cm pencil and watercolour 24 x 34cm work is estimated at £200-300.

Towering achievement by Trevelyan

Julian Trevelyan Towers and Oxen etching and aquatint - estimate £200-300 in Sworders' timed sale ending on June 14.

This striking signed etching and aquatint is by Julian Trevelyan (1910-88). Towers and Oxen, inscribed with title and numbered 49/50 in pencil, on wove paper measures 50 x 39cm, mounted. Estimate £200-300.

Fedden lights up the art world

Mary Fedden The Tabac Jar lithograph - estimate £100-150 at Sworders' timed auction ending on June 14.

An offset lithograph printed in colours estimated at £100-150 is a good opportunity to own a work by Mary Fedden, 1915-2012 (who was married to Julian Trevelyan - see above). The Tabac Jar, signed and numbered 501/550 in pencil, is a 1996 print after the painting of the same title, 22.5 x 28.5cm. Estimate £100-150.
