Fitting prices - vintage fashion such as Chanel on offer at auction18 August 2020 As Tennants auction house helpfully points out, “fashion changes but style endures”. One thing that doesn’t usually endure, however, is the price level for luxury goods. Which is great news for bidders who can pick up second-hand fashion for great prices.
The Tennants Costume, Accessories and Textiles Sale on August 22 is one such opportunity. The Leyburn, North Yorkshire, firm in one of several UK salerooms holding such dedicated auctions.
In this sale focusing on costume, bidders will be offered a wide selection of outfits from the Victorian Era to the present day at affordable prices. Richly colour silks of the Victorian era contrast with gauzy layers and delicate embroidery from the 1920s, elegantly tailored 1940s overcoats and printed cotton tea dresses from the 1950s. Men’s costume is included too, with silk dressing gowns, stripped cotton pyjamas and timeless tweed suits.
Tennants says: “The sale also includes a private collection of elegant designer outfits and accessories, largely from Chanel, but featuring key pieces by Chloe, Gucci and Aquascutum. All immaculately presented and mostly in size 14, these classic outfits will tempt those looking to update their wardrobes affordably.”
Here are five ideas for buying top fashion at reasonable prices.
