Among the trends on social media platform TikTok last year was ‘coastal grandmother’. The hashtag has more than 500 million views and evokes the white linen-clad stars of Nancy Meyers romcoms.
Whether you want to buy into this trend or not, a coastal scene from Cornwall can’t help but brighten up your walls this summer, bringing the coast closer to home.
Here is a selection of Cornish paintings from Penzance auction house Lay’s Cornish Art & Fine Art sale on August 24-25.
1. Fred Yates’ Lostwithiel
Artist Fred Yates (1922-2008) spent many years in Cornwall painting the local people and scenes. The Juliet Gould gallery was one of the dealers he worked with. A group of 13 paintings from the personal collection of Juliet Gould are being offered at the Lay’s sale. This watercolour titled Lostwithiel is estimated at £500-800.
