Troika pottery operated in Cornwall from 1962-83. The aim of its three founders was to create purely for art rather than for function. Several examples are on offer at Ewbank’s. Among them is this anvil vase for Troika by M Murell made 1974-75 when the factory was in Newlyn. It has an estimate of £200-300.

A new William Yeoward pineapple centrepiece can set you back well over £1000 – several thousands depending on the model. The example at Ewbank’s has a relatively tame estimate of £300-500. That includes a couple of chips to the body of the fruit, but these should not impede its power as an attractive centrepiece.

Ever-popular and highly popular, Moorcroft vases are immediately recognisable for their rich backgrounds and fruiting or floral designs. A contemporary British example, Blue Rhapsody designed by Philip Gibson for Moorcroft is offered at Ewbank’s. The design features Himalayan blue poppies. Though created in 2001, the cylindrical form with its flared neck was inspired by the Art Nouveau movement. It has an estimate of £100-150.

French jewellery and medallist René Lalique was also a master of glass design, whose workshop survived him. This large Lalique glass swan goes under the hammer at Ewbank’s with an estimate of £700-1000.
