SoldĀ together with a digital copy of hisĀ Baptism record; digital copies ofĀ Census returns; digital of copies ofĀ British Army Service papersĀ  (Victorian & WW1);Ā digital copy ofĀ Medal roll; digital copy ofĀ Marriage entry; digital copies ofĀ Newspaper entries; and a digital copy of hisĀ GPO employment register entry. Charles John AcourtĀ was born on 27th November, 1869, in St.Pancras, London, the son of Elisha Acourt (shown as Thomas Acourt on his Military Records) and Agnes Acourt. He was baptised on 20th December, 1869 at the Old Church, St Pancras, London. Charles Acourt, a labourer, enlisted in theĀ East Surrey RegimentĀ on 20th January, 1891.Ā He was already serving in theĀ 7th Battalion, Kingā€™s Royal Rifle Corps.Ā Acourt was posted to theĀ 2nd Battalion, East Surrey RegimentĀ on 26th February, 1891 transferring to theĀ 1st BattalionĀ on 26th September, 1892 stationed in the East Indies. He was transferred to theĀ Army ReserveĀ on 29th January, 1899. Charles Acourt wasĀ recalled for war serviceĀ on 7th October, 1899, andĀ embarked for South Africa with the 2nd Battalion, East Surrey Regiment.Ā They arrived on 20th October, 1899 for service during theĀ second Anglo-Boer War.Ā 3320 Private C Acourt, 2nd Battalion, East Surrey Regiment was wounded in action, during the attempts to relieve Ladysmith, at Almonds Nek (Allemands Nek) on 14th June, 1900Ā and he was returned to the United Kingdom on 20th October, 1900.Ā Private AcourtĀ was transferred to theĀ Army ReserveĀ on 30th April, 1902.Ā Charles married Mary Margaret Sheppard on 26th December, 1902 at St Thomasā€™s Church, Finsbury Park, London. He was finallyĀ discharged from the Army Reserve,Ā at Kingston on Thames, on 16th January, 1903, after 12 yearsā€™ service.Ā His character was very good and was in possession of two Good conduct Badges. In 1911, Charles was aĀ Post Office Labourer, living with his wife and children, in the Bloomfield Road, Bow, London.Ā With the outbreak of WW1, Charles Aā€™court was anĀ engineering workman, still living in the Bloomfield Road, Bow, London. He was re called for service with the Colours, as an ex-Soldier, under the Military Services Act, 1916Ā on 24th April, 1918.Ā Charles confirmed his previous service with theĀ East Surrey RegimentĀ and having been discharged on 16th January, 1903.Ā 329695 Pioneer C J Aā€™Court, Royal Engineers, Signal ServiceĀ was called up on 2nd July, 1918, but was transferred to theĀ W ReserveĀ the following day. Charles wasĀ discharged, being surplus to Military requirements and without overseas service, on 14th December, 1918.Ā He was not entitled to any WW1 medals. He re - joined the General Post Office, as a skilled workman, Engineering London, during 1920.Ā Charles John Acourt died in Stepney, London, during 1936. Records show him as Acourt and Aā€™court. 1)       Estimated Values – The estimated values shown after each lot are the auctioneer’s estimate of what the lot is expected to realise. The lower of these figures is indicative of although not necessarily the reserve. Bids below this amount may be subject to refusal.

2)      Telephone Bidding - We are happy to accept bids by telephone, via the number given, please leave a message if we are unable to answer your call, and we will phone you back. Also please ensure any Telephone bids are placed a minimum of 1 hour before the auction finishes, so that we can make sure your bid is placed in time.

3)      Internet Bidding – Bids by email, can be accepted through our website – mail@wellingtonauctions.com, they must include your regular postal address at the time of bidding, so as to allow us to include the correct postal costs on any relevant invoices. All bids will be confirmed by reply before the end of the sale, if you do not receive a confirmation, please telephone. Please ensure any email bids are sent and confirmed by us, a minimum of 1 hour before the auction finishes to ensure we have time to place the bid on your behalf. While we will endeavour to place bids after this time, we cannot guarantee that we will be able to do so.

4)       Telephone Bidding – Telephone bids will be accepted, but we will not be liable for any errors in transcribing lot numbers or bid amounts via this method, although every effort will be made to ensure accuracy..

5)      Succesful bidders will be emailed their invoices, please contact us after 24 hours if you believe you have won an item but have not heard from us.

6)       Wellington Auctions acts as agent only and is not liable for any default of the purchaser, or of the vendor.

7)       ‘As is’ and ‘offered on their merits’ lots may not be returned for any reason.

8)      Any returns must be received within 28 days of the closing auction date, at which point we pay out our vendors, any items returned after this period for any reason, we will reserve the right to refuse to refund.
