Bidders must satisfy themselves that the condition of the lot is to their satisfaction before they bid.
Before you bid in person you need a bidding number. You can get this from the office prior to the sale. If you are new to the saleroom, you will require two forms of ID, one to be photographic (e.g. passport, driving licence or utility bill).
If you are unable to be at the auction, you can leave an absentee bid. You must indicate the maximum amount you wish to spend, excluding buyer’s premium. The auctioneer will execute your bid as cheaply as possible.
We are pleased to offer telephone bidding for higher value items (i.e. over £150). The number of lines is limited and are offered on a first come first served basis.
All phone lines must be booked by 4pm on the day before the sale. We are unable to accept requests for telephone lines on the day of the sale.
All lots are subject to a buyer’s premium of 15% plus VAT.
Thomson Roddick Scottish Auctions Edinburgh offer an online bidding service via the-saleroom.com for bidders who cannot attend the sale.
In completing the bidder registration on www.the-saleroom.com and providing your credit card details and unless alternative arrangements are agreed with Thomson Roddick Scottish Auctions Edinburgh :
- authorise Thomson Roddick Scottish Auctions Edinburgh , if they so wish, to charge the credit card given in part or full payment, including all fees, for items successfully purchased in the auction via the-saleroom.com, and
- confirm that you are authorised to provide these credit card details to Thomson Roddick Scottish Auctions Edinburgh through www.the-saleroom.com and agree that Thomson Roddick Scottish Auctions Edinburgh are entitled to ship the goods to the card holder name and card holder address provided in fulfilment of the sale.
Please note that any lots purchased via the-saleroom.com live auction service will be subject to an additional 3% commission charge + VAT at the rate imposed on the hammer price
Payment can be made in person by cash, cheque, debit and credit cards (3% surcharge for credit card payments). Due to the high number of fraudulent card transactions, we are unable to accept payments over the telephone by debit and credit cards.
Payments will also be accepted by bank transfer (foreign transfers incur bank charges, it is the responsibility of the purchaser to ensure that sufficient funds are lodged to cover these).
The maximum cash payment we can accept in one transaction is £5000.

Artist’s Resale Rights
In 2006, ARR was introduced by a European Directive. It applies to living artists and those who have died in the last 70 years. The royalty is paid by the purchaser on top of the hammer price if the sale exceeds €1,000 (the Euro conversion rate is calculated on the morning of the sale).
