The “Shell” Transport & Trading Company, Limited. Ordinary Stock £100, London, 5 September 1944, #752805. Founded in 1897 by Marcus Samuel and his brother. Their father had owned a trading company that imported seashells, after which the company "Shell" took its name. In 1892, the Samuel brothers transported the first Russian oil to Singapore and Bangkok. In 1896, they had their own fleet of oil tankers. In 1907, Shell combined with Royal Dutch of the Netherlands to create the company today known as Royal Dutch Shell. The Shell Transport & Trading Company today still owns 40 per cent of Royal Dutch Shell. VF.
