This work shows Sen’s instinctive move toward abstraction rooted in folk memory. The free brushwork and outlines reflect his lifelong interest in tribal forms and village craft motifs he first encountered in Bankura’s clay idols and alpona patterns.

Sen often merged these local memories with modernist impulses, borrowing the bold line and fragmenting form from European artists he studied early on.
