IMPORTANT AND VERY FINE GERMAN SCULPTED IVORY AND SILVER MOUNTED EWER AND STAND, circa 1870 the ewer profusely carved overall with Bacchic figures, the handle as a maiden with amorino, the central register of the ovoid body with a portrayal of the Marriage of Dionysus and Ariadne, including satyrs, maenads, and the tiger drawn chariot, the lower register with winged grotesques above a stem with further satyrs and a domed base with fluted silver foot, 20 3/4" H, the circular dished stand with conforming decoration portraying the marriage feast around a central relief of Venus and Cupid, the sculpted ivory laid onto an oak base, 19 3/4" D.(Illustrated on inside front cover).
