MAY ROBERT L.: (1905-1976) American creator of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, originally commissioned for the Montgomery Ward department store in 1939. Scarce, vintage signed and inscribed 8 x 10 photograph of May seated in a half length pose proudly holding a toy model of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer in his hands. Signed in bold blue ink across a light area at the head of the image and inscribed to the noted autograph collector Rev. Cornelius Greenway, `With every good wish to Cornelius Greenway (on Rudolph`s 23rd Birthday)-from Rudolph`s Daddy, Robert L. May` and dated Christmas 1962 in his hand. Together with two other autographs related to Christmas comprising Jay Livingston (1915-2001) American Composer. Vintage signed and inscribed 8 x 10 photograph of Livingston in a head and shoulders pose. Signed in black ink to a clear area of the image. Livingston has added two musical quotations to a clear area of the background, one from Silver Bells and the other from Mona Lisa; and John Frederick Coots (1897-1985) American Songwriter. A.M.Q.S., J. Fred Coots, on a small oblong 8vo card, n.p., n.d. Coots has boldly penned a three bar quotation which he identifies as being from Santa Claus Is Coming to Town.
