Description
Edward VIII three piece cased condiment set, comprising pepper of waisted form, lidded mustard and open salt of circular domed form with gadrooned detail and blue glass liners. Total silver weight 6.86ozt (213.5gms). Hallmarked Elkington & Co Birmingham 1934 and 1936, numbered 36726. The pepper, open salt, and lidded mustard are all in good condition. They all have surface scratches, areas of tarnish, and tiny notches, but no serious damage. All three have build-ups of polish, particularly around the bases, the hinge of the mustard, and the lid of the pepper. Some of the holes in the pepper's lid have been blocked up with polish. Both the glass liners are also in good condition, with only tiny scratches, imperfections, and little chips to the rims. One of the spoons is plated, and the other spoon is the only piece to be hallmarked with an earlier date (1934 rather than 1936). Both have some small scratches and notches, and the plated one is discoloured, but they are in good condition nonetheless. The box has scratches, cracks and scuffs to the exterior, and stains on the fabric inside. The catch does not work very well, as it is loose.
