Portrait of George James Perceval, later 6th Earl of Egmont (1794-1874), wearing midshipman's uniform, standing on a shore, with a warship, possibly H.M.S. Orion, at sea beyond

This painting appears to be a smaller autograph version of the portrait, formerly at Cowdray Park, (sold at Christies South Kensington Ltd, 23 May 2012 lot 48).



The sitter joined the Royal Navy in 1805, served in Egypt and commanded the Fleet at the Battle of Algiers. He became Rear-Admiral in 1851 and was promoted to Admiral in 1863.



Medals awarded to the sitter are included as lot 384 in this auction
