French Second Empire Period 19th Century Dragoon Officer’s Helmet.
A good quality example, the gilt skull with leopard skin (Later replacement) turban and to the crown of the skull fine quality gilt metal comb, to each side floral leaf decoration. The front with a flaming grenade device and above is a Medusa’s head looking forward. From the comb a flowing black horse hair plume and to the front a gilt holder supports a black horsehair brush. Complete with gilt floral bosses which support and interlinked chin chain. A gilt plume holder supports a replacement scarlet cut feather plume. The interior with original leather lining, this now slightly distressed. Gilt remains fresh some restoration.
